Sarah Whitcher, FreediverI have always been in and around water, living down on the south coast of England enabled me to take part in many sports on the sea. I worked in a sports club for 8 years as a Swimming Instructor and Manager. I have also been a long time supporter of conservation efforts of our oceans worldwide, including 'The Shark Trust' and 'Bite Back' in the UK. Sharks, for me being one the most revered fish in our seas and yet the most misunderstood and least known about.

I was inspired to learn to freedive when I saw a freediver on TV swimming with whales and sharks. I wanted to be able to do that too but had no experience of diving or even snorkeling. I enrolled on my first freediving course in October 2007 at the SETT in Portsmouth, UK.   From that point on I wanted to learn more and I went through my 2 and 3 star in just a few months. Then in the summer of 2008 I went to Kalymnos, Greece and became a 4 star and AIDA freediving Instructor.

Freediving feels natural to me, the breathing, relaxation and the serenity of going through water is a truely wonderful experience. It gives the diver the unique underwater experience where sences are heightened; fish can be heard feeding from the coral, colours that are astounding, the sensation of going through the water an efficient and streamlined way.

I also wanted to gain a qualification as a SCUBA Instructor so was looking around Dahab for a reputable dive centre to train with. I heard about Dive In and decided to train there where I could carry on teaching freediving while doing my Dive Master training.

So that is where I am at right now, living in Dahab; diving and freediving in one of the best dive spots worldwide, and being actively involved in the conservation of the Red Sea.
