Sarah and the bikes in front of the border gate reading We made it to Malaysia without any trouble at all. We do have slightly tender bottoms but all in all we are in good shape.

We listened to everyone's concerns about the instability of the South Western Provinces of Thailand and so instead opted for a nice relaxed two day stay in Hat Yai making the most of our time left in Thailand before leaving through the Padang Besar border. I was very sorry for leaving Thailand even though we will be back before long, I will miss the food and people and I really do hope that they will find a political peace soon.

Leaving Thailand and entering Malaysia was surprisingly quick and easy, we cycled out of one country into another without having to fill in any paper work or having our bags searched, just a few good wishes from the immigration staff and what I am sure were comments of 'look at the daft farang cycling in this heat!!'

'Malaysia, truly Asia' as the saying goes. And so far of what we have seen it is truly beautiful, we cycled past the similar looking craggy cliffs as are in South West Thailand, but these were surrounded by fertile paddy fields and the farmers in them were waving wildly at us as we cycled past.

The head of an ostrich We came across a wildlife park that was home to ostriches, ponies and deer. A bit of an odd combination but they all seemed happy enough to be there.

Richard spotted a black and white monkey at the top of a banana tree who bolted it as soon as he realised that he had been spotted. I was a little further behind and the little critter vanished before I arrived, guess I'll just have to cycle faster ;)

So tonight we are staying in a most luxurious hotel called the Sri Garden Hotel in Kangar. I say its luxurious because it is costing us a staggering 105 MYR (21€), we usually go cheaper but the cheap here is a bed with a wooden mattress and my muscles need some TLC so that they are in prime condition for tomorrows onslaught...ahem, I mean adventure ;)

Tomorrow we are going south to Sungai Petani, which we estimate is 103km. I do wonder what we get to see on our way there.
